The most mobile joint in the body

The shoulder joint is one of the most mobile joints in the human body. The shoulder blade and the collarbone form the highly flexible joint together with the head of the humerus. This enables us to perform delicate activities, such as writing, or to throw powerfully and lift heavy objects. The large radius of movement is possible because the joint is mainly held together by muscles, tendons and ligaments and is hardly protected at all by bony structures. The downside of this mobility is that the shoulder is therefore particularly susceptible to problems. A support immobilises the joint and supports healing.
