This webinar will provide practical clinician-led perspectives on the use of Spring Loaded Bracing in patients where pain, quadriceps weakness or extensor mechanism deficits limit function. Hear from Mr Fahad Hossain MB BS FRCS, Consultant at Spire Little Aston Hospital and Manor Hospital (Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust) and Mark Walbank, Orthotist at Peacocks Medical Group and Trust Lead at Newcastle Teaching Hospitals as they both discuss how they identify appropriate patients, why they consider extension assist bracing, and where it fits alongside rehabilitation, conventional bracing and surgical management.
Using real clinical cases, the speakers will explore a range of indications for which the Spring Loaded brace has been used in practice. Particular attention will be given to patients with patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFOA) and quadriceps insufficiency, including patients who struggle with activities requiring loaded knee flexion such as stairs, sit-to-stand and squatting. Cases will focus on the clinical reasoning behind brace selection, the functional problem being addressed and the outcomes observed following fitting.
This session will cover:
-
PATIENT SELECTION: identifying patients who may benefit from extension assist
-
CLINICAL REASONING: Selection considerations for patellofemoral OA, quadriceps weakness and extensor mechanism deficits
-
REAL-WORLD CASES: Clinical decisions and functional outcomes across a range of patients
-
CLINICAL PATHWAYS: Where Spring Loaded Bracing can fit within existing orthotic, rehabilitation and surgical pathways
-
LIVE Q&A: 15 minutes to ask your questions
