Supporting you to support your back
A strong, fit back offers so much more freedom and quality of life. It is essential to be keep moving when our backs are sore. This is when a back support (orthoses) can be effective elements of treatment.
Back orthoses relieve strain and ease pain
Healthy back day on 15 March aims to raise awareness of this widespread condition. A sore back can have many causes. Conditions that are caused by wear and tear, such as osteoarthritis of the facet joints, are common. In this disorder, wear and tear of the intervertebral discs between the vertebral bodies increases the pressure on the facet joints, i.e. the joints that link the back of one vertebra of the spine to the back of an adjacent vertebra. The layers of cartilage in the facet joints wear down, causing the bones to rub against each other.
This often leads to chronic, deep-seated back pain. Special back braces can help (for example, Lumbamed facet from medi). They relieve pressure on the facet joints, improve posture and ease pain. Back orthoses are also used if the symptoms make everyday activities more difficult. They support the lower lumbar region and relieve strain on the ligaments and joints. The warmth and the massage effect reduce muscular tension and relieve pain.
